The Town of Livingston, located about 25 miles east of Baton Rouge on U.S. Highway 190 with access to Interstate 12, is the parish seat of Livingston Parish. It features the parish courthouse, government offices, health unit, Louisiana Motor Vehicles bureau, and parish fairgrounds. Each October, Livingston hosts the annual parish fair, parade, and rodeo. Just north of town is the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO), where gravitational waves are detected by the National Science Foundation.
